Atlanta Police Helicopter Piilots Richard J. Halford Shawn A. Smiley

Law enforcement pilots from across the region assemble to honor fallen officers at Fulton County Airport.

About 25 helicopters from law enforcement agencies across northern Georgia staged today in front of the Rotorcorp offices at Fulton County Airport in preparation to honor APD officers Richard J. Halford and Shawn A. Smiley who died Saturday night when their OH-6A crashed.  The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

After the services, the law enforcement helicopters flew a Missing Man formation as officer Halford was interred.  The missing man formation is an aerial salute performed as part of a flyover of aircraft at a funeral or memorial event, typically in memory of a fallen pilot.

Rotorcorp and the entire helicopter community in Atlanta continue to hold the fallen officers and their families in our prayers.
