Why Are Lycoming Engines Backordered?

While the most serious aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic are behind us, Lycoming sent a letter dated July 17, 2023 where they stated that “Engine lead-times until further notice will be (14) fourteen months. ”

In the letter, Lycoming explained that “The global supply chain and workforce dynamics experienced during and post-pandemic continue to evolve and drive risk across our business. We recognize the inconvenience this is causing and want to assure you we are taking aggressive steps to resolve the delays and missed commitments.”

The 14-month lead times for engines, as well as the extended lead time for Robinson overhaul kits, make things challenging for maintainers planning an overhaul. For now, our best advice is to factor in these lead times when you’re planning your overhauls.
